MARAGONDON CAVITE - A total of 1000 bamboo culms were planted on Saturday morning, March 10, 2018 in the mountainous side of Brgy. Pinagsanhan, Maragondon Cavite.
The bamboo planting with the theme “Plant Trees, Save Lives” is the first CSR activity of SMCC Philippines for the year 2018.

In partnership with DENR-PENRO Cavite Chapter, the bamboo planting activity is under the National Greening Program - a government priority to reduce poverty, promote food security, environmental stability and biodiversity conservation, and enhance climate change mitigation and adaptation.

Studies show that bamboo plants have the capability to sequester carbon and can release 35% more oxygen than equivalent stands of trees, thus having significant contribution to climate change mitigation. It also has economic potential as it can be a good substitute for wood and other purposes.
A total of 51 volunteer employees from Makati head office and various Luzon sites took part on the planting activity.

Despite the difficult planting site trail, the volunteers still enjoyed and carried through the activity bringing with them the hope of helping, as little act as it may be, the environment and the society.
