    EVRMC OPD Building Turnover and Inauguration



     

    SMCC’s recently concluded JICA (Japan International Cooperation Agency) funded project - Eastern Visayas Regional Medical Center Out-Patient Department or EVRMC OPD Building was turned over and inaugurated last September 21, 2017 by JICA to the Department of Health through Secretary Paulyn Jean Rosell Ubial.

    Key persons who were present during the ceremony were Minister Atsushi Kuwabara of the Embassy of Japan, JICA chief representative Susumu Ito, ASEC Leonita P. Gorgolon, former DOH secretaries Enrique Ona and Janet Loreto Garin, Leyte Governor Leopoldo Dominico L. Petilla, Congresswoman Victoria Noel, SMCC Philippines General Manager Motohiro Aoki, SMCC Project Manager Mr. Tamaki Tsukasada, DOH regional director Minerva P. Molon, and EVRMC chief of Hospital Dr. John Edward M. Coloma.

     

     

    The health facility is part of Japan’s grant aid assistance to typhoon Yolanda victims’ rehabilitation and recovery.

     

    JICA Chief Representative Susumo Ito on his statement said “We brought Japanese know-how in building the facility using disaster resilient designs and consequently enhance access and delivery of health services in the region.”

     

     

    The 5,272 sqm, 3-storey building that is built to withstand strong winds is expected to accommodate about 350 patients daily for consultation, treatment and rehabilitation.

     

    Sec. Ubial expressed her earnest gratitude to the Japanese government in the construction of the new facility as an assistance as well as it being a testament to the Philippine Japanese close relationship.

     

    Aside from the EVRMC OPD, the JICA Grant Aid Assistance for Typhoon Yolanda Rehabilitation and Recovery also includes rebuilding of schools, municipal halls, rural health units, equipment to the National Maritime Polytechnic, meteorological radar stations and electric cooperatives.

    It is both an honor and a privilege for SMCC to be part of the JICA’s assistance to the Philippines and to be involved the long close relation of Japan and of the Philippines.
