In cooperation with the Philippine Red Cross Rizal Chapter, SMCC Philippines Inc. held its first ever bloodletting activity last September 16, 2017 at Training Room 1 - SMCC Makati Office.
The half-day event was organized by the Business Development and Marketing Department as part of the company’s corporate social responsibility line of activities FY2017.
With the theme “Give Blood Save Lives”, a number of SMCC Philippines employees showed interest and enlisted to donate. A total of 28 employees volunteered and were screened but only 13 were able to donate successfully.
The activity started at 8AM through a registration and screening conducted by the Philippine Red Cross Rizal Chapter. A series of steps were taken before the donation.
Step 1: Registration and Weigh In
Step 2: Questionnaire Fill-out
Step 3: Interview and Blood Typing
Step 4: Physical exam and Check up
Step 5: Actual Blood Letting
The volunteers bravely went through each step focusing on the goal to help save lives through donating blood. Although there were a lot who showed up and took interest, not all were able to pass the screening due to the following reasons:
After blood donation, volunteers were asked to remain lying down and rest for at least 10 minutes. They were also given some refreshments and giveaways as gratitude for participating in the said activity. Some of the refreshments were donated by the Coca Cola Collectors’ Club of the Philippines President, Mr. Jay-Ar Mendoza.

Most of the employees who volunteered came from the Makati Head Office. Some managers donated as well.

All in all, the activity did not only give a positive impact to the organization’s standing but most importantly it gave its employees a sense of fulfillment and involvement. Such activity demonstrates the company’s commitment to uphold volunteerism and compassion for the community.
The company is positive that this activity will be held annually because of the support both the management and employees gave. SMCC Philippines is also hopeful for more cooperation and support for the next activities to come.
